For most of us, washing your bike after a mucky ride is an unpleasant but necessary chore, especially without a proper workstand but here is how we at Rollmop CC do ours.
Start by degreasing the drive-chain with a paintbrush.
Then rinse the bike thoroughly with a garden hose to avoid spreading the dirt around and scratching the frame.
Then remove the wheel and degrease the cassette.
Scrub and rinse the hubs, rims, spokes and cassette.
Use a sponge and a bucket of warm soapy water to clean the frame. Work from top to bottom and front to back.
Also rub down the shifters and handle bar tape.
Then get a toothbrush and use the soapy water to clean where the sponge can't: around the bottom bracket and brakes.
Wrap the sponge round the chain and turn the cranks.
Another hose down to wash off the foam.
Then the rear wheel goes back in.
Dry the bike with a soft clean cloth.
And wipe of the excess water from the chain.
Finally relube the chain and wipe off the excess with a clean rag.
And that's that, all shiny and ready for the next club ride.
